Help us to buy a classroom set of bikes for Randwick School, so all our students can learn to ride and develop their cycle skills.
Wellington
We are committed to establishing Bikes in Schools ( http://bikeon.org.nz/bikes-in-schools/ ) at Randwick School.
Principals, teachers, parents and students at schools with established Bikes in Schools projects report that it:
1. Raises the confidence and self-esteem of students through a fun activity
2. Delivers proven health and well-being outcomes for the students (and staff)
3. Increases concentration and focus in the classroom
4. Provides an opportunity to self-manage risks within a safe environment
5. Results in the extended family biking more often
6. All students able to receive cycle skills training and safety messages
7. Students will not only learn cycle skills, they will also have the opportunity to learn how to do basic safety checks on bikes (brakes, tyres).
Having a classroom set of bikes ensures:
1. Regular access to a bike goes from approximately 30% to 100% of students at each school
2. Introductory cycle skill training is provided to 100% of students
Having a classroom set of bikes is an integral part of Bikes in Schools because it ensures that all our students get the opportunity to learn to ride a bike, develop their cycle skills and have fun on the bike tracks we are building (please see Community Bike Track Randwick School if you would like to contribute to the tracks). Having a classroom set of bikes is about equity.
Randwick School is a co-educational years 1-8 primary school in Moera, Lower Hutt. We are a community focused school and welcome any and all children and their families who are committed to learning.
Funds raised will go towards purchase of 50 bikes in a range of 4 sizes (from new entrant to adult), a helmet for each student (160), and a storage container (a shipping container with roller doors added).
