Help us build bike tracks on our school grounds that will be available for the community to use outside of school hours.
Wellington
As part of establishing the Bikes in Schools project at Randwick School we are aiming to build 3 separate tracks:
- a loop track around the rugby field
- a skills track with various obstacles
- pump track (bumpy BMX style track)
Who will use the track?
Our children will use the track during the day. Cycling will be incorporated into our school fitness programme and all relevant Physical Education and Health Curriculum activities. Cycle skills training will be provided,
Outside of school hours, anyone can come and use our tracks. We hope to use the track for annual community education events where we invite our local community into the school to use the track and up-skill them on their cycle skills.
Help us to build a community asset that will promote fun, healthy lifestyles and sustainable transport. If you are in the Wellington region, you can use our track with your own friends and family.
Cycling ticks so many boxes; fun, fitness, active sustainable, independent transport, confidence, co-ordination etc, so I was appalled when I realised one of my son's school friends could not ride a bike, and his parents did not know how, and it was unlikely that he would have the opportunity to learn, and the same was likely to be true for other children at our school. I read about the Bikes in Schools programme somewhere and decided that it would be awesome to make it happen for our school, and here we are.
Randwick School is a co-educational years 1-8 primary school in Moera, Lower Hutt. We are a community focused school and welcome any and all children and their families who are committed to learning.
Donation through this page will go towards
- a loop track around the rugby pitch
- a skills track with various obstacles
- pump track (bumpy BMX style track)
Due to space constraints some pump elements may have to be incorporated into the skills track. Fine tuning of the working design is underway.
We aim to finish summer 2017/2018.
