Birkenhead United are undertaking an exciting $2.5 million clubroom extension and upgrade starting September for the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Beach Haven, Auckland
For the first time ever the FIFA Women's World Cup is coming to New Zealand and Birkenhead United AFC are excited to confirm Shepherds Park has been selected as one of 11 training venues in Auckland.
To meet the needs of visiting teams, our diverse growing membership and wider Whānau, we are undertaking an ambitious $2.5 million clubroom extension and upgrade project.
A key goal is to improve facilities for females and families with baby changing and breastfeeding rooms, shower cubicles, improved privacy screening, gender-neutral referee changing spaces and accessible toilets. The project also includes creation of a large multi-purpose covered deck for member and wider community use and the upgrade of second floor amenities.
Construction is provisionally scheduled to begin in September 2022 and will be completed in May 2023, ahead of World Cup teams arriving from early July.
We have already made significant fundraising in-roads, with over $1.5 million generously committed to the project from Sport New Zealand/New Zealand Football, Auckland Unlimited, Lotteries the Kaipatiki Local Board and the Birkenhead Licensing Trust.
We have submitted an application Auckland Council for the bulk of the remaining funding, but set ourselves the ambitious target of raising $200,000 through community and business donations...and this is where we need your help.

1. New changing rooms & covered deck
