Blake's Journey & hope to return to NZ

      20 May 2026

We lost Blake's job yesterday and have to move out of our current house in 3 weeks.

Radiation will start in 19 days on the 9th of June.

It will be 6 weeks of 5 days of daily treatment, 3 days off, 4 days of daily treatment, 3 days off on repeat.

Then he will move on to chemotherapy tablets.

We were assured that Blake is not "condemned" as his now former boss had described, Blake will return to farming in due time.

Blake had his mask created today which he gets placed over his head to undergo the radiation.

Blake also got a head CT so they can see where to target and refer back to at every treatment because imaging will be done every treatment to track progress and ensure he hasnt moved so we only get the target.

Blake will experience fatigue and nausea towards the end of the treatment more so for the nausea and hair thinning especially when he goes through chemo but this is short term.

He may experience seizures because of the treatment but will remain on medication and there is less than a 1% chance of this happening.

In the long run Blake may experience troubles with concentration and memory loss but the more he uses his brain the less likely this will occur.

Reminder he cannot fly for 6 weeks post surgery and would need another head CT to fly but treatment cannot be delayed.

Again a HUGE thank you to everyone who has shared our givealittle page and/or donated, in this time of need it is truly appreciated.

Blake had his stitches removed on Monday.

We had the radiology oncologist appointment today.

We know that the tumour was a Grade 3 Glial tumour its coming from Astrocytes.

This is brain cancer there is no stage 1-4 just grades.

He has IDH mutations which is a good thing.

Blake has a good performance score.

There was a good resection of the tumour and brain.

The cancer is a microscopic disease.

He will start radiation treatment in the next 2 or so weeks daily for 5-6 weeks.

Followed up with chemo tablets afterwards.

Followups of clinical and imaging with imaging likely to be 3 monthly.

    Remain on seizure meds.

Driving to be reassessed after 6 months post surgery with no seizures.

Please if you are in contact with our girls remember they do not know about the cancer, they just know dad had a lump removed from his brain and he needs time to recover and heal. We will talk to them when the time is right but they are still settling in to their temporary life currently.

Once our plans and timeframes are properly in place we can start making our bookings to come home, we are hoping to find a house over in NZ by the time we do return, it is tracking for end of July/early August at this stage.

Thank you so much for everyones thoughts, support, donations and kind words, we cannot explain how much it means to us in this scary and emotional time.
