Blake’s second Leukaemia Journey

  • Road to Recovery

    Blake is reaching all his goals. He is still 100% donor 🤞🏻. Doctors are very happy with his progress. His school transitioning is such that he can begin getting back into mainstream school. He absolutely & genuinely loves school & is so excited. So great for his mental health too. Still have monthly checks, still have nervous waits, still have worries but they will always be there. It is now time to resume normal childhood as best he can. To every single person who has donated, sent hope, showed support, we couldn’t have got through this without all of you. Paying it forward is the best we know how to show our gratitude.

  • ON THE ROAD HOME

    Blake has now been released from hospital. He is back home but him & his Dad are travelling to Auckland every second week from this week on for a 2-day stay each time for all checks. All lines & tubes have been removed and our focus is on keeping him well, and encouraging him to put on n weight. He will be getting home-schooled via Zoom in the new term as school is still a long way away. But overall, things are moving forward slowly.

  • STEM CELL UPDATE

    Blake and Cody are now in Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland. Blake has had his umbilical cord blood stem cell transplant. All is going as expected. It has been quite rough on Blake who turned 6 on 22 December. The symptoms of the chemotherapy plus the stem cell transplant reactions are text book but horrible. He is pushing through like an absolute warrior but is certainly battle-weary. Cody is right by his side every minute also finding a strength he didn't know he had.

    Your messages of support are so welcome, your help is greatly appreciated as their family is at the other end of the country. We are all playing the waiting game.

  • Plan of attack

    Hey everyone who reads this page. I'm Cody I thought I'd give everyone a wee run down of how we are looking. So all going to plan we will be under going chemo in Christchurch for 2 months before being transferred to starship hospital in Auckland for a further 3 months. Up there we will be receiving another dose of chemo and radiation to absoulutly obliterate all leukemia cells. Then we will be receiving the bone marrow transplant and 9 weeks recovery before going home for further recovery and maintenance.
