Beautiful houndy boy Blaze is not doing so well and his fantastic humans, Pat & Angela, desperately need our help to bring him through.
Hataitai, Wellington
Kia ora! I'm Maria, one of the admins on FTLOGH. My fellow admins, Pat & Angela have been living a nightmare recently after their gorgeous boy, Blaze, became suddenly unwell. After tests with his local vet were unable to find an answer, he had to be taken to the Massey vets in Palmerston North for CT scans, treatment & ICU care. He's in extreme pain and struggling to eat & drink. The cause of the issue is still unknown.
Blaze's story is an incredible one. He began his time with Angela and Pat struggling with severe behavioural issues. At one point, they were worried about whether they were going to be able to find a solution. However, Angela & Pat's persistence, determination & unconditional love for this beautiful boy meant that they were fully prepared to try everything they could. Their hard work paid off, & Blaze has been living a wonderfully calm & pampered life with them for the past few years.
Us houndy owners, whether past or present, know all too well the lengths we will go to in order to ensure our greyhounds have the best life possible.
Angela and Pat are now in the position of having to do that for Blaze, as he fights to get better.
The financial burden is significant & although Pat and Angela would never ask for help, they have been there for so many of us in the past who have needed financial (and emotional!) support.
It would be wonderful for us to be able to show them the kind of support they have shown others over the years.
Please donate what you can.
Greyhounds brought us together. Now friends, we have been the recipient of Pat & Angela's help for our hound when he was in desperate need. It is our honour to do what we can now to be there for them.
Treatment and care expenses for Blaze.
Blaze's update 24 February 2026
This is the worst update to have to write. It has been a total rollercoaster since Blaze injured himself 2 weeks ago. Extreme pain which we couldn't manage, no answers from his scans, he was hospitalised, they could help with his pain but then either the medications or something else going on started to create all sorts of issues. Abnormal kidney and liver levels, nauseous, not eating, wobbly, then arrhythmia last night which they let us know could result in a heart attack. His abdomen and chest ultrasound showed an enlarged liver with odd things in it. They told us they didn't think he would come out the other side of this. This was utterly devastating as he was starting to look more steady and like the pain was improving. We will never know whether it was something underlying, a nerve sheath tumour, something with his liver, the combination or the effect of the medications. Blaze was put to sleep today. We are utterly devastated.
