Blind Kayaking for Jono

Jono (Jonathon) is my husband. We have been looking for a hobby that we can both enjoy and get out to so together, yet Jono can be independent.

Jono is legally blind with just 3% sight left due to a medication give to him for his epilepsy. He will eventually be totally blind in a few years time. But he would like to see as much as he can while he can.

We gave kayaking a go last summer with the local blind foundation group. We found it was loads of fun and Jono was very independant out on the water.

Even once he looses all his sight he can still get out but tying a rope between the two kayaks and I can guide him.

Why do we want two single kayaks rather than a double? For now Jono is too independant and loves going faster than me lol.

I spoke to the manager of The Great Outdoors of Whakatane he advised the Scrambler II would be a good size and have excellent stability for both of us.

We live within an hour of at least 10 different lakes and have a ute to be able to transport the kayaks anywhere.

If we get our goal of $2200 that will include the kayaks, seats, paddles, lifejackets and wet suits.

We will start a seperate facebook page to share our experences and photos of our days out exploring all the amazing lakes that are all around us.

We have both done kayaking when we were younger and know how much fun it is.

Please help me to get Jono out there before its too late.
