Help! I need to replace my broken washer/dryer to increase my independence.
Gisborne
Hi! I have always been totally blind, and I highly value my independence.
I do have wonderful support workers but our time is limited. This means that there are certain chores I do for myself.
One of these is the laundry, which just happens to be my favourite housekeeping task.
For the past eight years I have had a washer-dryer.
I have treated it with the utmost care but unfortunately this machine has ceased working, and has been deemed irreparable.
As well as my blindness I have a pituitary disorder. This has stunted my growth and limits my energy and dexterity.
The washer-dryer has been perfect for me because:
- I can reach into the front loader.
- I don't lose clothes transferring them from the washer to the dryer.
- My current accommodation is too small to accommodate both a washer and separate dryer anyway.
- I can't tell what the weather is outside, or have the energy or height for the washing line and so using an outdoor line doesn't work for me.
- I trip over clothes drying inside and the extra dampness affects my health.
- I love to be independent where I can and so then my limited time with support workers can be used for other things that I can't do without help.
It's hard to ask for help, but I can't do this on my own. If anyone is able to give a little so that I can look after myself it would be much appreciated, thank you.
The money raised will be spent on purchasing a new washer-dryer, paying for its delivery and installation. It will also cover the cost of paying the removal and disposal of the old washer-dryer.
