Let’s help get Boaz through this injury, back on his feet and back on the bike.
Canterbury
Most of you will be drawn to this page because you have had the pleasure of crossing paths with Boaz. But for those of you that don’t know the man we lovingly refer to as big nug, allow me to divulge.
Boaz is a full time fun haver, passionate mountain biker, and just an all round great bloke with his mind firmly set on his goals, and the work ethic to back it up.
Since I’ve known Boaz he’s gone from one of the most understated teenagers I’ve ever met to a force to be reckoned with in the NZ elite men’s DH circuit, with his eyes set on the world circuit. Becoming a great friend to myself and many along the way.
Unfortunately on the 23rd of July While on a training ride Boaz suffered a serious neck injury, Breaking his C7 Vertebrae which was subsequently pushed into his spinal cord, he lost feeling from the chest down immediately but thankfully the feeling has returned.
However we’re not out of the woods yet and Boaz faces a lengthy hospital stay, currently with a neck brace on in an attempt to stabilise and allow the damage to heal naturally, in hopes of avoiding surgery and any subsequent risks involved.
Through the years I’ve learnt the level of mental strength, grit and sheer determination Boaz possesses to overcome anything he puts his energy towards and I doubt this will be any different.
I’ve created this page in the hope that we as a community can somewhat ease the financial burden of the situation and help in the only real way we can right now. Allowing Boaz’s fantastic parents Ross and Clarice the most time possible to support him, and to help Boaz with his road to recovery including any costs this may incur over and above what financial support ACC may offer.
Boaz has been a Great friend and riding buddy of mine for many years now.
All money will go towards helping Boaz, his family and his ongoing recovery.
Thank you 11 August 2021
Hey guys Alfie here.
As the page is due to close in the next day or so I just wanted to put out a wee update to say thank you to everyone who donated, I was blown away seeing everyone get behind Boaz during this time and it’s been great seeing all your messages of love and support for the big man.
He’s still got a long road ahead but thankfully he’s been able to return home and the X-rays and check ups are looking positive for it healing without the need for the risky surgery.
He’ll have to stay fully braced up for the next 4-6 weeks atleast but he’s been managing to take little walks without assistance now and he’s doing anything possible to work towards making a full recovery.
Thank you again and all the best
Alfie
