In memory of Bob Redfern, please donate towards purchasing fun & inspiring books to foster a love of science for students at local school.
Canterbury
After a short illness, Bob Redfern passed away on Friday 7th August in his 87th year. The return of COVID in NZ means we are unable to hold a community gathering for friends and family to celebrate his life and pay respects. So in lieu of flowers, we would love for people to make a small donation towards the purchase of some interesting and inspiring scientific books to foster a love of science at the local school where his grandson now attends.
Those of you that knew Bob Redfern, knew two things to always be true.
1. He would do anything to help anyone
2. He would talk to anyone about anything!
Bob (Dad to us) loved to share his seemingly endless knowledge about nearly everything, but particularly anything to do with science. As an expert metallurgist (materials scientist), he spent his entire career (and for many years after he officially "retired") using his love and knowledge of the science of metals to assist many businesses and individuals. He'd be extremely chuffed to know that his legacy can live on in some small way to hopefully inspire children to love science as much as he did!
My father Bob Redfern recently passed away (87). Rather than gifts of flowers, we would love for people to donate to the purchase of science books or similar, to foster a love of science at the local school that he has been connected to for over 40 years.
All funds will be used for the purchase of interesting books about science, science experiments or science topics either for use in the classrooms or for the student library at Swannanoa School, in memory of Bob Redfern.
