The time is finally here! Our Bobby boy has healed enough from his car accident that he is bandage and collar free. His newly healed skin is remains fragile so still no bath (after one month phew) for a bit longer.

Thankyou so much to everyone for their love and support - we could not have done it without you all. Much love from the Dyer’s and of course Bobby xx 🐶🐾❤️

And thank you for your love and commitment towards Bobby. He couldn't have done it without you as well.

So pleased the ordeal is finally over. One happy pup. Big hugs all round xox

Hey everyone. Bobby is making great progress and this will be the last update for 2019. He has just one paw bandaged and his open wounds are healing nicely. As you can see from the photo he is even feeling well enough to be interested in what is happening when we are in the car. Down to two vet visits a week and hopefully the last bandage is off in the next two weeks. Thank you again to everyone for their kindess, support and love to our wee guy. A Happy New Year from Bobby and the Dyers x

A rush visit to the vet again as Bobby has licked out every staple in his two large flank wounds. The vets can’t believe he is able to do this whilst wearing a medical collar. So..... desperate times call for desperate measures. He now has a extra necklace to wear made from a pool noodle and the ignominy of wearing a pair of children’s stretchy pants - yup especially purchased from the The Warehouse. Praying this works!

Come on Bobby...give your mum a break. The sooner you let yourself heal...the sooner you're back at the beach.

  • A Little Bit Further To Go

Last vet visit before Xmas Day and whilst the healing is progressing the setbacks from last week have really chewed through the kindly donated funds. Each bandage change is just under $100 and we went through four last week (the expectation was two at the most).

We are super grateful for the kindness shown but unfortunately we have had to increase our funding goal just a little as we have been given no potential date (ie next few weeks) for when the bandage changes will slow down let alone stop.

Thank you again and Merry Christmas from Bobby and the Dyer family

Was so pleased this morning to see Bobby up walking and doing his usual thing of following me room to room. Went out for an hour to get much needed groceries and come home to find this mess on his temporary bed in our bedroom. He has an Elizabethan collar (that we have upsized twice already) and somewhere he still got a bandage off one paw. Bits of bloody dressing scattered over the house and the edge of his collar, that I so carefully lined with cotton wool, covered in blood. Great he’s feeling well enough to do this - not so great for his healing. It look like someone will need to be with him 24/7. I’m starting to feel really stressed and tired.

  • Third Vet Visit in Three Days

      21 December 2019

Things haven’t been going so well in the last three days for Bobby. After doing so well with the surgery we are having problems with his right leg with new cuts and fluid forming. Back to the vet again for our second unplanned visit this week for more bandaging on that right leg. He’s off his food today - will nip to the supermarket to try to find something tempting for him. Thank you to everyone for the help and please feel free to share this link - we have had amazing generosity for which we are so grateful. These unplanned visits are starting to push us out of the estimated full recovery costs. Thank you 🙏❤️🐾

  • New Bandaging

A set back today with the new cut in Bobby's leg from the collar - I shall edge it in cotton wool tonight to protect him. He also had a major fluid collection in his flank which has been drained. I noticed this afternoon that his paws have started turning black,- that upsets me hugely. We were warned to expect that some skin would die - infection is the big worry now. A big thank you to the NZ Chihuahua Rescue Trust for putting a plea out to their members for help. The response has been amazing and we feel so blessed with peoples concern and care for Bobby. A few more thank you's to do on the page and then I will too will have a rest beside our boy. x

  • Two Set Back in Two Days

      20 December 2019
    Main image

Two days of not so good news for our boy. Yesterday one of his wounds burst open and I had to rush him back for it to have multiple staples and a bigger collar put on him. Unbelievably today the collar got stuck at the end of a bandage and has cut his leg open so a new wound completely :-( Whilst dropping him off at the vets they notice a huge amount of swelling in the right hind quarter - this is the worst damaged leg so have had to leave him there this morning for more treatment. The bills are wracking up even more with these unexpected setbacks.

  • Kiwi Style Rain Shoes

It has been raining heavily the last two days and Bobby's bandages cannot get wet in the least. Ziplock bags are doing the trick - he look so cute and the swooshing sound when he walks makes me laugh. He was very quiet yesterday, just staring at me soulfully. Hopefully today is a better day .

  • Xmas Bandages

Bobby did so great at the vets yesterday. He was a real trooper - singing all morning to the staff (howling lol). His wounds are looking good at the moment, but I keep being warned to expect some skin to die. Not sure what that means for Bobby long term - I worry about amputation and also infection. But he is trucking along nicely - hates his collar with a passion. It is raining in Christchurch today so he has to have plastic bags on his feet when going to the toilet - will try and grab a photo of that as it is super cute. Love from Bobby to you all xxx

  • Yay for a Poop!

      16 December 2019

Finally - Bobby has done his first poop since being hit by the car. This means all his bodily functions are currently working - phew! He is at the vet's right now waiting for his first bandage change and I think he will be coming home with a bigger collar around his head as he can still reach the open wounds on his back flanks. Will pop a pic up when he is back home again today. I still can't thank all you beautifully kind people enough x

  • First Drink of Water

      14 December 2019

So relieved to see the wee guy taking his first drink of water. Still no pee or other stuff but he is now eating and drinking. I was sitting on the lawn with him at 3am this morning encouraging him to pee. But he slept reasonably well and is currently sleeping in his bed under my desk whilst I am at work. Thank you for the support that keeps coming - we are blessed ❤️

  • Back Home for Now

      13 December 2019

We have our Bobby back home and he is fast asleep beside me on the floor. Just tuckered out. Rest is the best healer right now. No broken bones, no internal injuries and they were able to stitch up all the wounds - even the one that he was cut to the bone. Amazing vet team. Now infection is what we watch out for. Full bandage changes, possibly under sedation every three days at approx $160 per change. Thank you again to you all for the amazing support and generosity. Love Bobby and family x

  • Surgery Time

      13 December 2019

Bobby is currently having surgery (not sure if he will need more) and thanks to you beautiful souls I was able to approve a blood test I had to refuse this morning due to $$$ worries. I think he is coming home tonight to start a very very long road to recovery. Will post updates and pics as I get them.

Thank you to everyone for being so kind and to my workmates who have been so incredibly supportive.

And to my darling Bobby currently in dreamland - Kia Kaha my little buddy. See you soon.
