Bonnie’s First Steps - Centre of Movement Therapy Intensive

Bonnie was born with a rare genetic disorder (8PINVDUPDEL), her chromosome 8P has been inverted, duplicated, and deleted which only 350 people in the world are currently diagnosed with. This caused her to have a missing corpus collosum (the part of the brain that joins the left and right side together).

As first time parents, this was HUGE for Matt & Kate to navigate, process, and understand. There has always been unconditional hope for Bonnie and these guys have promised to do everything in their power to give Bonnie the best opportunities possible.

After a hugely successful week of therapy in December with the Australian based Centre of Movement they have recognised that this therapy needs to be prioritised for Bonnie to reach her next milestones.

A three week intensive is the equivalent of doing 6 months of therapy. The Centre of Movement is a paediatric rehabilitation centre that involves a team of specialists that will help re-wire, strengthen, and create new neural pathways through neuroplasticity to find ease, co-ordination, new transitions, and movements to help build more strength and independence.

Unfortunately, this type of therapy is not available in NZ and comes at a huge cost. It is approximately $15,000 for flights, accomodation, and the therapy. The dream would be to do multiple intensives in the year.
