Fundraiser for Sid's Top Surgery
Wellington
My name is Sid, I am 23 years old and have been trying to access Top-Surgery through the public health system for over 3 years now. I haven’t even made it onto a waiting list! About 2 surgeries a year get approved in Wellington, and at this rate, I’ll be waiting until 2033.
Going through the private health system will cost upwards of $27,000 which is quite far out of my budget as I very recently graduated from university :(
Having this surgery would drastically improve my everyday life: my confidence, my ability to interact with the world, the way I feel about myself and my safety. Being visibly trans can be risky in public at times. I wear binder every day. It constricts my breath and can cause long-term health issues. I can't do things like go to the beach or the gym.
Right now, I feel like my life is on hold. I feel unnatural and uncomfortable. It just feels wrong. I've changed in so many ways over the last three years. Mentally, I'm on the road to becoming who I want to be but it doesn't align with how I look. This surgery is something I haven't been able to change.
Donate to show your support for my Gender-Affirming Surgery. Any help is appreciated no matter how small!
In the (very unlikely) event that the a place opens up in the public health system and I manage to book the surgery, all of the money will be donated to Gender Minorities Aotearoa. For more information on what they do, go to https://genderminorities.com/
