Help us in eliminating single-use plastic bags and our mission to make over 5000 reusable Boomerang Bags freely available in Westport.

West Coast

We're on a mission to make reusable boomerang bags freely available throughout Westport and the wider Buller/Kawatiri district, eliminating single-use plastic bags from our community while promoting #WestportNZ.

We're organising a 24hr Bag-a-thon between Friday 12th-13th October with an aim to make over 5000 reusable boomerang bags that will be distributed and available throughout shops and businesses in Westport.

To make this achievable and to ensure that we can uniquely brand each bag with the #WestportNZ we need your help to purchase a few rolls of calico and some basic screenprinting equipment.

Together we can make Westport and Kawatiri one of the most funky and sustainable communities in NZ.

About Boomerang Bags:

Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities in the making of Boomerang Bags – community made, using recycled materials. Boomerang Bags provide a free, fun, sustainable alternative to plastic bags.

By getting involved, you are participating in a global movement, celebrating a grassroots initiative focusing on community building and sustainability.

This is a wonderful initiative and we encourage other Westport businesses to get behind this cause. Not only is it helping reduce the amount of single use plastic being used by our town, it's a great way to promote our beautiful region to visitors and showcase the fantastic community spirit which is alive and well in Buller.
