To unpack and organise two container loads of donated medical supplies that have arrived at a hospital in the jungle on Borneo, Indonesia.
Manawatu / Whanganui
The Bethesda Hospital is located in the jungle village of Serukam, on West Kalimantan (formerly known as Borneo), Indonesia. The Christian Hospital was started in the 1960s by a Dr & Nurse couple to serve the people in the area. They deal mainly in maternity and neo-natal cases, and skin infections which are rife in the area.
The hospital has always been a faith mission relying on donations of time and money. The hospital trains its own nurses, the doctors come from medical schools on short and long rotations. The founders are now retired, but their son still serves there as a doctor.
Ron & Monique are going to Bethesda Hospital from end of October to end of November to organise the existing medical warehouse, build some shelving, unpack numerous drums and boxes of medical supplies which have been donated by hospitals in the US. Monique will also create a cataloging system so that what is there can be known and found, and Ron will also repair some wheelchairs and crutches.
Ron & Monique are seeking funding to help defray the costs of airfares, accommodation, and some tools which will remain at the warehouse.
We became involved because the need seems so pressing, and we have the skills, motivation, and desire to assist.
Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation, we will certainly put it to good use. Thanks, Ron & Monique.
