Help Boyd the special needs rescue cat

  • Progress and Set Backs

      16 February 2017

Sorry for the lack of updates. A lot has happened since.

Boyds biopsy results came back as squamous cell carcinoma in situ. He had surgery to remove the lesions (cryotherapy). The surgery cost $575.

His wounds are healing nicely but he has had some complications. Due to the stress of having 2 surgeries in 2 weeks he developed what looks like either a urinary tract infection or cystitis (or both). The lab results will provide more details than the in house test, and we hope to get those in a couple of days. He has been given antibiotics and pain relief for the mean time.

The vet bill for this last health issue was $198.50.

In the last two months the vet bill has totalled over $1800.

It's been very, very hard. Not just on my finances but also on the cats, especially Boyd, and it has me in a constant state of worry. Without my mum taking us to the appointments and the clinic allowing me flexible payment options, all of this wouldn't have been possible.

Where does that leave his eye treatment? On hold for the time being. I need to get Boyd's stress levels down to help clear up his uti/cystitis, and to be honest I can in no way afford it at this time.

Please let your friends, family, colleagues etc know about Boyd's journey. Any donations are so helpful.

  • Dentals and Biopsy done

      23 January 2017

Boyd and Skye had their dentals last Wednesday. The vet took a 3mm punch biopsy from Boyd's nose and we should hopefully get the results tomorrow at his follow up.

  • Vet Visit Update

Boyd is having his referral letter sent to the animal eye center. The vet today said she has never seen congenital Horner's syndrome in a cat before!

He also needs his teeth scaled and polished. While he's under anesthesia they will take a sample of the scab on his nose to see if it is precancerous or not.

Skye's teeth are slightly worse than Boyd's. She has grade 1 (bordering on grade 2) dental disease. She needs a preanesthesia blood and urine test before her dental work.

I was wanting to get their teeth seen to before I return to work next week however I will have to see if the vet can fit them both in at short notice.

  • Vet Appointment

Boyd & Skye have a vet appointment on Monday to see what needs doing with their teeth, and they will also look at Boyd's eyes and write the referral letter for him to see the eye specialist.

Thank you to everyone who has so far helped, whether it be through a donation or sharing Boyd's story to friends and family. We are so grateful. Xx
