I want to help support my sister through chemotherapy
Christchurch, Canterbury
Despite being ten years younger than me, my little sister has always been there for me. When I’ve needed it the most, she has been there with emotional support and offered financial help.
If you are like me, you wouldn’t have known that Kiwis with cancer are not eligible for ACC. That means that when they are no longer able to work full time, they are forced to subsist on whatever crumbs the government is currently willing to give.
We can all be thankful that patients don’t have to go without a roof over their heads, but things like nutritious fruit and veges, additional vitamins, and hydrotherapy become luxuries, well out of reach despite being imperative for a quick recovery from chemotherapy.
Angie has always been fiercely independent, which has been her greatest strength, but now, when she needs help the most, she is having to do many things for herself. Her small group of family members living nearby in Christchurch do all that they can, but of course there are limits.
I’m doing what I can in the way of direct support, but I wanted to reach out to you all and ask please if you could put in even five dollars that would make one day lighter. I know times are tough for everyone right now so please just give what you can.
So many thanks in advance!
Stefan
