  • Two days to go.....

    One more day until the big fat fella – oops. Sorry. Wrong event. Two more days until the quick shuffle / slog / sprint (pick your favourite ‘s’ word) around Sladden Park and the chance to catch up with Brent. Noting of course that the Sprig and Fern is where it will all happen 😊.

    This from Chester Burt on the kayak leg – the one leg I have not done myself recently – when I asked him for an assessment of the paddle leg:

    >>Hi Shane, Funnily enough I paddled up to the Hutt River a few weeks back and paddled up river to Avalon at high tide and with some post rain extra water in the river. You can turn around the Ewen bridge a piece of cake . It’s just about moving across the river to find the slightly deeper spots. The Ava bridge (rail) can be a hazard at times for the inexperienced however it is easy there now at the moment with a shallow channel so it’s flat an easy there. Just watch the Fisherman on the bridge with long lines however the Shandon golf course side is shallower so the fisherman vast into the deeper channel on the opposite side if they are there. Good course Shane !very suitable for any novice paddlers in it’s current state.

    If you have the paddlers heading around the Ewen bridge pile clockwise from left bank to right bank that will have paddlers turning nicely back into the river flow same at the Waione bridge (clockwise).<<

    Thank you to all that have contributed to the fundraiser. We have a current total of $4,400 – which is pretty darn cool. Thank you. And the page will stay open until the end of the month.

    Fire through any questions if you have them. This will be a low-key event (that is code for probably chaos on the day). Weather looks ok. A touch of rain (we need it though aye. All that dry ground and solid as a rock hillside). Dave Hicks is managing the after match and will provide details on the day. A quick heads up that I’ll most likely be scribbling numbers on your hand with a marker pen to record who has done what. If you are not keen to be blemished in this way, have a think about what I can write on, on you, to track you a little easier 😊

    Hey all. Thank you for your support for Brent. I need to get out the proper thank you emails and will do over the next two days. I’ll send the event entry form out as well. With Brent being at the event it is a good opportunity to say gudday and work up a thirst for the after party ☺️
