Dushan Herrick died tragically in Vietnam after being hit from behind by a truck while riding a scooter. Help us bring him home to rest.
Wellington, Kapiti Coast District
On Thursday 29 June 2023 we lost Dushan Herrick.
While fulfilling his dream to travel across Vietnam on a scooter, Dush was hit from behind by a truck and sustained injuries nobody could have survived. He was only 19.
Dush was a son and a brother. He was a grandson, a cousin, a nephew. He was the very best friend. He had a gentle heart and was not scared to love. He had a strong sense of himself. Dush was fiercely loyal.
We, his family, remain so proud of him; we will forever remember our beautiful boy for teaching us to dance and love like there’s no tomorrow.
No family should ever experience the loss of a child.
Devastated by the loss, Dush’s family faced the heartbreaking task of returning him to his tūrangawaewae on the Kāpiti Coast - a task exponentially worsened by the tyrannies of distance, language, culture and expense.
We all sincerely thank you for your help to recover the costs incurred bringing Dush home.
We are Dush's immediate family
All funds raised will be used to recover the costs incurred bringing Dush home.
Funds will be paid to Dush's father Reuben
Remembering Dush 19 October 2024
Almost 16 months ago the unimaginable happened. The myriad of emotions we have felt since has been staggering. Amongst it all we have been touched to see how far and wide Dush's reach is. Thank you for your kindness and thoughts.
We have recently had a bench seat installed at Peakākāriki Beach as a place to sit with Dush, to watch the sunset and contemplate life. You'll find the seat opposite The Sand Track (44 The Parade). Maybe we'll see you there x
