Imagine waking to the terrible sounds of exploding shells, air alarms, and a fear of being bombed and killed. This is how the daughter (35) and grandson (11) of Maria, Tauranga Yoga Centre’s lovely cleaner and fellow yogi, have been living in Ukraine for the last two weeks. They’ve both hardly slept, spent long hours in a cold basement, and the nervous condition of her grandson is deteriorating every day.
After an agonising wait, Maria’s family has now been granted a special visa to join her in New Zealand. Maria is hoping to get them on a plane before Easter. But she needs our help - after being widowed in 2021 and without any money or family support in New Zealand, Maria can’t afford to pay for their flights to freedom and safety. "I will be deeply and sincerely grateful for any financial assistance provided," she says.
