Help bring Jacob home — poisoned at work, now facing months unable to walk, alone in Australia with no income and no support
Whangamata, Waikato
Jacob Campbell is a young Māori man from New Zealand who travelled to Perth, Australia to build a better life in the mining industry. What followed has turned his world upside down.
Earlier this year Jacob was poisoned at his worksite from workmates attempting to prank one another that has gone too far, leaving him with serious cardiac complications and unable to work. He has been fighting for workers compensation ever since, without receiving a single dollar of income support.
Before he had a chance to recover, Jacob suffered a further devastating injury — a broken tibia with ACL and MCL tears. He has undergone extensive surgery and faces a minimum of three months unable to walk.
As a NZ citizen in Australia he does not qualify for government support. He has no whānau nearby and no income. For Māori, whānau connection is fundamental to healing — and Jacob is facing this entirely alone.
His doctor has confirmed he cannot fly for months and will require a business class seat when cleared.
We are raising funds for:
Monthly living costs while awaiting medical clearance
A return flight for a family member to come and care for him
A business class flight home once cleared
Support costs on his return to New Zealand
Any contribution, no matter how small, makes a real difference. Please share widely — it costs nothing and could change everything.
Ngā mihi nui 🤍
I am Jacobs mum.
Funds will cover Jacob's daily living costs while awaiting medical clearance to fly, a return flight for a family member to provide care in Perth, a doctor-ordered business class flight home to NZ, and support costs while he recovers back with his whānau
