Please help my elderly Whippets after an unprovoked dog attack
Bay of Plenty
On boxing day myself and my elderly whippets Ben and Riley were attacked by 3 pitbulls who were hunting dogs, being walked by a 13yr old girl. The attack was totally unprovoked, prolonged and brutal. Ben received terrible wounds to his legs and back.Riley received back and leg wounds.Ben has had several surgeries in an attempt to close his infected wounds.Riley has had to have his leg amputated.
The perpetrators were eventually found and their dogs seized. They have now been signed over to the council and have been destroyed. This means the owners will not be prosecuted. I blame the owner not the poor dogs who should not have been walked in that way.
My boys will never be the same.I will never be the same. Its such alot for old dogs to go through i did not want them to end their days like this.Ben is terrified to go out and I will never be able to take Riley for a walk again. Its hard for an old dog with arthritis to be on 3 legs and i am certain this will shorten his life.I have a disability but choose to work instead of being on winz, However i can only work part-time..My vet bill is over $4,000 .I cant make the pitbull owners pay my vet bills. The vets at Waihi Beach have gone over and above themselves to help my dogs and myself. My friends and neighbours in katikati have been amazing as have the dog wardens.
The boys before and after photos say it all..Please press on the gallery at the top of the page to see the photos
