Fundraising to build New Zealand only Viking Longhouse.
Norsewood, Manawatu-Wanganui
Hi, my name is Jamie Hughes, together with Eva Renbjør each year we run the Norsewood viking festival in the small Norwegian heritage village of Norsewood.
Last year our community lost the community hall due to damage to the structure that made it unsafe.
What we would like to do is build an authentic viking style long house on the council owned land in Mathews Park. this park is where we hold the festival each year, that attracts 5-8000 people over the weekend and continues to grow.
We have spoken with the local council and they are in full support of our vision.
The hall will be community owned, to be used for weddings, gatherings, school events, fundraisers education and any other community based projects.
This will be the only Viking longhouse on this side of the world, and being in a Norwegian heritage village will bring tourists worldwide to our community.
Our viking festival is not for profit with all proceeds going back into growing the festival the upkeep of the park and raising funds to build the longhouse.
But.... we need you help, the design, permit and engineering cost for this structure alone are huge. So we are asking you to help. Every dollar helps and will be donated to the building of the longhouse, weather it be design and engineering, materials and maintenance to provide our community and all of new zealand with an experience that you can not get anywhere else in the country.
The funds being raised currently are for the initial plans and engineering reports etc. Once the plans have been drafted we will be able to lodge a building permit application.
Co organizer.
Initial draft plans and permits, then engineering and building of a new long house

Page closing has been extended. Please kindly donate to help us get this through council and into the consents stage. We are currently waiting for the reserves management act to be changed to allow us to build on Mathews Park. Council are working on this.
