Post Disaster Relief - Build Abroad Nepal

$120 of $1,600 goal

Help Sam get to Nepal to help build schools and homes/ provide relief for those affected by the 2015, 7.8 Nepal Earthquake.

Wellington

On May 15, 2015, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. Since then, the world has been sending aid in the form of supplies and in-country volunteers. In response to this tragic event, I have decided to volunteer my services with an international volunteer organization, Build Abroad.

The Build Abroad Organisation is helping with the rebuilding Kathmandu and the surrounding Himalayan villages. Now that most of the disaster relief has been completed, they have turned their efforts to post disaster relief and long-term development in the mountain villages.

These villages are more remote and therefore have less access to supplies and labour to help build schools and homes. This is where I will be volunteering.

Since the start of the Nepal volunteer program, Build Abroad volunteers have helped rebuild two schools in rural villages affected by the earthquake. This is a great start, but there is still plenty of work to do. Progress is slower in the mountain villages due to lack of resources and geographic isolation.

Accommodation for all volunteers is in mountain villages outside of Kathmandu. These villages are located in a very rural part of the Himalayas and do not have access to many modern amenities such as running water, higher voltage electricity and internet access. On the weekends, volunteers have the option to go back to Kathmandu to do laundry, take hot showers and use WiFi.

I am planning on volunteering from the 7th of May 2018 to the 25th of May 2018 – Helping build schools and homes for the Nepalese people and provide relief to their communities.

Volunteering takes place during the week, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm in the mountain villages.

Temperatures can range from 15°C to 30°C during this time of year with the humidity building before the monsoon season from June to September.

Please help me help these remote villages to gain a better quality of life by rebuilding their Communities after the devastation that has occurred.

I will be helping build Schools and Houses in the remote villages around Kathmandu.

Use of funds
