Raising money to build a computer lab for children in one of the Poorest Areas of Nepal

Nationwide

If you ever fly into Kathmandu airport, look out of the right hand side of the plane as you come in to land. If it is a clear day, then you will will be able to see a little slum area and, just behind it, Deeya Shree School. The school provides free education to the children who live in this area. I am raising funds to help build a computer lab at the school with the aid of a New Zealand - Nepal based charity called 'EduTech Nepal'.

EduTech are a registered NGO that specialize in building computer labs at schools in highly deprived areas of Nepal. Their mission is to transform education through technology and to provide Nepali children with access to computers that would otherwise not be possible. The organization is run by a combination of people from both New Zealand and Nepal, all of whom are passionate about education. They have very kindly offered to make up half of $9,000 (NZD) cost required to build the computer lab. To find out more about EduTech Nepal please visit their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/edutechnepalfoundation/

Deeya Shree school itself is run by Keshab and Manoj. The school’s full name is Deeya Shree English Boarding School - but this is a misnomer as there are no boarding students (the name simply means they have permission from the government to one day house students if they ever have the capacity to do so). I can honestly say that Keshab and Manoj are two of the most honest, generous, altruistic and kind-hearted people you could ever wish to meet. They do a fantastic job of educating the children in difficult circumstances and the well being of the students is always first and foremost in their minds.

The school has developed leaps and bounds in recent years. Comparing some of the older photographs to the more recent ones you can see that the walls have been painted, that the electricity is working (almost) constantly and that they have even managed to construct new buildings to increase the number of students they can teach. You can find out more about Deeya Shree School from their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Non-Governmental-Organization--NGO-/Deeya-Shree-English-Boarding-School-567473199934409/

The purpose of this Give A Little page is to help raise the remaining $4,500 required to build a computer lab at the school. This will not only provide children from one of the poorest parts of the world with access to computers but will also transform the way that the students can learn. Indeed, as part of the process, EduTech will train teachers at the school in terms of the best way to incorporate the new resources into their lessons.

This is a REALLY worthwhile project that could quite literally change the lives of the children in this community. Any support, no matter how small, that you could provide would be greatly appreciated by everyone involved in the project.

Deeya Shree School is a school providing free education to children in a highly deprived area of Kathmandu. I worked at this school as a math teacher back in 2014 and have visited several times since.

Use of funds

All money raised from this Give a Little page will be given to EduTech Nepal to help them build the computer lab at the school. Any excess will also be given to Edutech Nepal to help them build computer labs at other schools across the country
