Give Our Kaka a Room to Grow!
At Natureland, we know that Kaka are more than just birds, they are the cheeky, acrobatic soul of our New Zealand forests. This World Parrot Day (May 31st), we aren’t just celebrating their intelligence; we are fighting for their future.
The Mission: From Natureland to the Wild
Natureland is proud to house the only breeding Kaka in the Top of the South whose chicks are destined for the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary. We aren't just a zoo; we are a vital link in the survival of this incredible species. Our goal is simple: to see more Kaka soaring over our hills.
The Bottleneck
We have the expertise and the dedicated pairs, but we need more space. Currently, we operate with two purpose-built aviaries. To ensure breeding success, we need to be able to split our pairs into their own dedicated environments when the time is right. Without a third aviary, we are limited in how many chicks we can successfully raise for release.
How You Can Help
We need to raise $41,000 to build this third, essential home. It’s a big number, but it’s a direct investment in the biodiversity of our region.
Your donation—no matter the size—goes directly toward the materials and construction of this facility. Help us provide these "forest comedians" with the privacy and space they need to thrive.
Let’s celebrate World Parrot Day by building a legacy for Nelson’s Kaka. Please donate today!
Natureland is a wildlife park in the top of the south island focused on community and conservation. We have a range of domestic, native and exotic animals and contribute to three successful breed for release programs.
Donations fund materials and construction for a third predator-proof aviary. This $41,000 project provides the dedicated space our kaka need to successfully raise chicks for release into the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary. Every dollar helps!
