Buy Luke an Ogo wheelchair — give him a better quality of life and help him do his job of helping vulnerable people into work.

Canterbury

In the last week, Luke (Whakapapa: Iwi - Te Arawa, hapu - Ngati Rangitihi) has helped three disabled people get into paid employment. This is what he does in his job as a Senior Employment Consultant for Catapult Employment Services Trust. He helps people. Now it’s time for him to be on the receiving end of help, and because he doesn’t like asking for help, I’m doing it for him. Luke uses a wheelchair to get around and has done since he was a youngster, when cysts on his spine left him an incomplete tetrapelgic, but he’s a man who grabs life full on and generally lets nothing get in his way. After years of pushing a wheelchair his shoulders are now causing him some issues from all the work his arms have done. I’d seen a demonstration of a person using an Ogo wheelchair and it looked like the perfect answer. An Ogo is designed along the lines of a Segway, where the user is able to move by simply leaning in the direction they want to travel, so no pushing and wearing out of the shoulders. When Luke had the opportunity to try an Ogo out he was amazed at the greater mobility and quality of life it would offer him. It would also help him do his job, getting people into work, even better than he already does. Funds raised will go towards buying Luke an Ogo, a kiwi-developed revolutionary wheelchair. Alison Brown's involvement (page creator)

I'm raising funds to buy Luke an Ogo wheelchair. As Luke's ex-boss, friend and mentor for four years I know that both his personal and working life would benefit greatly if he was able to use an Ogo for mobility.

Use of funds

The money will be spent on buying an Ogo for Luke to increase his mobility, quality of life and help him to better do his job of helping people with disabilities into employment. Surplus funds will go towards assisting another person to buy an Ogo.
