3 weeks ago I was selected to represent New Zealand at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Please support me in my lead up to the Games.
Auckland
My name is Byron Raubenheimer, I was born in 1991 with Paraxial Fibular Hemimelia. Which meantr i was missing my fibula, 3 toes on my right foot and my right leg was quite a lot shorter than my left. Despite my parents best efforts to repair my limb at 12 years old I decided to have it amputed. A difficult decision but ultimately the best decision I have ever made. From then I began Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing and Snowboarding. I represented New Zealand in Snowboarding for a number of years until I could no longer handle it financially.
Two and a half years ago I was approached to try my hand at cycling and I have been pedaling away ever since. My big frame makes me a perfect candidate for the sprint events and my main focus is the 1km Time Trial. I competed in this event at the World Champs in Italy in March and placed 9th which I am hoping to build on at the Games.
This endurance training camp will play a huge role in my success and I am throwing everything I have into the build up for these Games. I will be unemployed for the next few months to allow for proper training and recovery which is a pretty daunting concept financially but will hopefully pay off in the long run.
Your support over the next few months is greatly appreciated and I thank you for taking the time to have a look at my Givealittle profile.
Cheers,
Byron
