  • Can we please #givealittle more for Lauren & her family?

      3 September 2019

    Updates for Lauren's current health condition;

22 July - Lauren's 3rd and last cycle for the experimental chemo drug started on this day.

20 August - Today, Lauren underwent an MRI Scan and it wasn't the result that we were hoping. The experimental drug suppressed the tumor on Lauren's spine but not the tumor on her brain and has grown quite significantly

21 August - Lauren was admitted to Palmerston Hospital due to continued vomiting and headache.

22 August - The whole family flew to Starship Auckland as Lauren was advised to undergo immediate brain surgery. The tumour has been blocking the fluids between her brain and spine. They will be putting a shunt on her to relieve pressure on her brain. It will create a path so that the fluids can bypass the spine. It was the best option to avoid popping something on Lauren's brain due to the accumulating fluids. Today, Lauren is no longer able to walk unassisted.

23 August - Lauren had undergone brain surgery to add shunt to her head to ease the headache.

24 August - She was discharged from ICU to a normal ward.

27 August - Lauren has started losing control of the left side of her body. Both left hand and leg are getting weaker by the day. This most likely is part of the brain that are being affected by the tumour.

28 August - Lauren returned to Palmerston North and stayed overnight in the hospital.

29 August - Lauren has now been given less than a month to live

1 September - Lauren had to be brought back to Palmerston North due to continued vomiting and diarrhea. Higher dosage of medicines were given to stabilize her condition. She couldn't talk anymore, and her body gets weaker and weaker..

We are still praying that miracle will heal Lauren. Thank you all for your love and support to the Grana Family. We are still knocking on your kind hearts for any amount that you can share to help aid the financial needs of the family. God bless you all!

  • Update on Lauren's treatments

      2 July 2019

First is to thank each and everyone of you for your continued support to Lauren and to her family. With your prayers and finnancial assistance, you make them feel that they are not alone in this battle. God bless you all a hundredfold!

    *****************************************************

An experimental drug they call 'compassion drug' has been floated by Lauren's Oncologists that might prolong her life. Unfortunately, it was not PHARMAC approved to be administered here in NZ. The Oncologist did justify it and was finally approved after months of negotiations. June 7th these experimental chemo drug arrived in Palmerston North NZ. Lauren will be the very 1st patient in NZ to test it.

June 8th when it was first administered to Lauren. It's a 3 cycles of 7 days treatments with 14 days recovery period.

On the first 3 days of Lauren's treatments, her legs were wobbly and she kept on falling over. However, on the 4th day onward she was able to walk without out help.

During her recovery period her blood counts were good and she was not placed in isolation; which is great because she can still play with her siblings and friends.

Lauren's 2 weeks recovery period and cycle 1 completed June 30th.

2nd cycle of the treatments started yesterday, July 1st. Hoping and praying that Lauren's body would again be able to accept the medications without the side effects she previously experienced during her 1st 3 days of cycle 1.

Hoping that everything goes well and according to schedule, Lauren's post treatment MRI Scan will be on the 14th of August at Starship Auckland.
