Fundraiser to develop and upgrade a safer school environment for underprivileged kids in Battambang, Cambodia.
International
Kia Ora beautiful Givealittle community. My name is Alicja. I am a marketer, a yogi, I love NZ but most important I am an ex-volunteer of the AKD School in Battambang, Cambodia. I spent a month of teaching children English during my holidays last year. The experience and time there has motivated me to establish this fundraiser.
The school is run by a lovely Cambodian family. Kamnat, Mama and Oma dedicate their lives to make a difference to children in their community, and so do the volunteers who are looked after by the family. The students here are aged 5 to 20. They are from the countryside and have poor or no access to education. Most of them live in poor conditions and are certainly underprivileged. All classes are offered for free to the kids!!!
Kamnat has the big dream of upgrading and making the school a safer place. After rain, the classrooms and grounds get flooded and teaching is impossible. There is a lack of resources and there are only 2 toilets for a 100 students at the time. All education is free for the students, as the family poors in their own money and the volunteers pay for their accommodation, material and teaching resources.
Over the last decade I worked in the NZ and its education sector, which is rich in nature and education. As you can imagine the conditions at AKD have shocked me, the people moved me and the family inspired me even more to make a difference in peoples´ lives.
In one of my jobs I had the honour to work with the educator Warwick Isaacs who unfortunately passed away. We annually raised money for charity. Warwick always said: Every penny counts! With that in mind I set up this crowdfunding space to help AKD to raise funds to build new classrooms. One classroom cost US$2500. So this is the goal.
So if you have a spare penny, or many spare pennys please click, donate and be part of making a difference.
Big thank you to the volunteers and Kamnat's family for doing wait they are doing selflessly. May I add that the family is not putting themselves 2nd or 3rd, they are putting themselves last - after every kid who comes to school.
Thank you and namaste, love Alicja
PS: Anne Frank said: No one has ever become poor by giving!
I want to help the AKD school Battambang, Cambodia to rebuild their space so the kids can keep studying for free in a safer environment.
