Jonty will spend the whole year sleeping in his tent to raise funds to save the giant tortoise of the Galapagos Islands from extinction.
Nationwide
Jonty has spent the past 4 summers (since he was 5 yrs old) camping out in his tent. He has now decided that he would like to 'camp out for a cause'.
Jonty is extremely passionate about animal welfare and recently learned of the plight of the giant tortoise on the Galapagos Islands. He has decided that he wants to help raise money to save the giant tortoise from extinction.
He is prepared to sleep for a whole year in his tent if people will donate to his cause. He has already spent 172 nights in his tent this summer (but has never done a winter). He said he will continue to sleep in his tent for as long as it takes to reach his fundraising goal. The money raised will be donated to the Galapagos Conservation Trust.
Conservation actions of the Galapagos Conservation Trust:
-Incubating eggs. Keeping the newly hatched tortoises in captivity allows them to grow big enough to escape attacks from rats and dogs once they are released.
-Eradication campaigns are under way which aim to remove the introduced species that threaten the survival of tortoises.
-Helping to improve our understanding of giant tortoise migration so that more effective management plans can be implemented.
Jonty wants to raise money to help save the giant tortoise of the Galapagos Islands. He plans to camp out in his tent for a year to raise funds.
The money will go to the Galapagos Conservation Trust who do fantastic conservation work on the islands and have a programme in place to help regenerate the numbers of giant tortoise.
