On Monday Papua New Guinea's mountains were shaken apart from a 7.5 EQ. I JUST received 1st contact from my inlaws in Mendi. They need help!

International

On Monday morning while everyone slept, the mountains of Papua New Guinea were shaken apart from a shallow 7.5 EQ for the first time in living history. JUST NOW, I received a call from my in-laws in Unjamap Village by Mendi town which is the nearest town to the epi-centre. Their houses are flattened, they need tarpaulins + ropes, rice bags + tin fish urgently. They try to but cannot sleep outside due to rain and back-to-back aftershocks. They are panic stricken as they know nothing about EQs and their gardens are destroyed.

The damage across the country is vast but if you can help me to help our village of 2000-3000 people, we CAN make a difference. A road is open where supplies can get through and I can coordinate this from here in Christchurch. If more money is gifted than our village needs, we will distribute rice bags and tarpaulins as far as possible. See my Facebook page for updates on our progress.

I dearly love my in-laws and lived with them for 10 years. After our CHCH experience, I hope that other New Zealanders might be willing to 'pay it forward' after the generosity shown by other people to help us get back on our feet here in CHCH. Thank you!

Vivienne Yeki's involvement (page creator)

My PNG husband (of 21 years)'s family live in a village adjoining Mendi town which is the closest town to the 7.5 earthquake epicentre. I lived in Mendi for 3 years and was in PNG for 10 years. I have just had a first call from our family there as they haven't had phone reception. They need lots of tapaulins and money for rice bags and tin fish. There is an access road open to Hagen where supplies could be sourced but the villagers need our help. I can get people over there to travel to get supplies and provide to those in need.

Use of funds

Funds will be used for Tarpaulins, 25kg rice bags, cartons of tin fish, rope, hammers, nails which can be transported in. If more money is gifted than we need, it will go to other Southern Highlands villages in need.
