Helping Marika & family reunite for Christmas, providing care & supporting his daughter & 3 grandchildren in her final heartbreaking days
Auckland
Kumeu Valley Estate's Front of house and property manager, Marika Gusuna, has been a loyal and treasured member of our team for 19 years, dedicating his life to hospitality with warmth, generosity, and care. Many also know Marika as a former international and Barbarians rugby player, representing Fiji in both 7s and 15s.
Marika left Mana Island Fiji to build a better future in New Zealand while supporting his family from afar. He is now facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His eldest daughter has been sent home from hospital in Fiji with a life expectancy of just 12 weeks.
She leaves behind three young children. With much of Marika’s family either having passed away or now living in New Zealand, there are very few people in Fiji able to care for them. Her husband is also working in New Zealand, leaving the family under immense emotional and financial strain.
We are asking for your help.
Your donation will directly support Marika and his family by helping to:
Reunite the family in Fiji for Christmas
Allow Marika and his daughter to be present during her final days
Provide care and stability for the children during this heartbreaking time
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference — whether it helps cover flights, daily living costs, or ongoing care for the children. If you are able to give, please do so today, and if you cannot, sharing this page is also a powerful way to help.
Your kindness and generosity mean more than words can express.
We met Marika while visiting Mana Island. He immediately impressed us when he noticed a nail raised on the timber deck, grabs a rock and smashed it down so nobody would be injured. He came to work for us 19 years ago & has been a valued member of our team
All funds raised will go to Marika for anything to support them during this time (including airfares, medical costs, living costs, funeral costs, Christmas gifts, etc.)
