Our NZ Title holders are fundraising for a new canoe and paddling from Westshore to Waimarama
Hawke's Bay
Paddling a surf canoe from Westshore to Waimarama has never been done before but we have decided we are up for the challenge!
We need to fundraise the shortfall for our new canoe so we decided what better way to achieve that than to do something that has never been done before!
The team are members of the Waimarama Surf Life Saving Club
For the last 65 years – the Waimarama Surf Life Saving Club has patrolled Waimarama Beach every summer.
Over those years, many lives have been saved and we still continue to save lives and prevent injury, every year and every weekend from early November to late March. Our volunteer lifeguards train and upskill in their own time and are then tested yearly to make sure they are performing to be ready at a moment’s notice to save someone’s life.
If you, your family, friends or colleagues use Waimarama beach as your summer playground, we will be here for you and the ones you love, keeping you safe.
However – patrolling our beach is expensive. Last year it cost our club $138,000 to cover the costs of the operational running of our club. Of that amount - $48,000 was specific costs of equipment we must have in order to provide this vital service.
