TOKEN volunteers protect great spotted kiwi and native wildlife along the Kawatiri Coastal Trail through trapping and monitoring.
West Coast, Buller District
The TOKEN (Tōtara Ōkari Kiwi Enhancement Network) is a dedicated group of volunteers working to protect and restore native wildlife along the Kawatiri Coastal Trail and wider. Our team maintains over 200 predator traps to create a safer habitat for local species, especially the great spotted kiwi, which is a unique and important population in this area. Using trail cameras, we monitor these special birds and track the success of our conservation efforts. Every bit of support helps us keep this vital work going.
The Kawatiri Coastal Trail needs donations to support its maintenance and ongoing operations. Even at this early stage it’s imperative sufficient resources are available, to protect and enhance the Trail and the experiences of all who use it.
Funds raised will help TOKEN continue vital kiwi protection work by purchasing ongoing lures and new traps to expand predator control efforts
