While 65% disabled, I fought HNZ for 16 years to get uninhabitable flats closed and rebuilt. Now I'm over $10k in debt and need help.
Wellington
In brief, I had proof to show HNZC knew my flat leaked over 10 years, and was crazy enough to take on NZ’s biggest landlord, and also to take on up to $20K debt in the process. I was tired of being abused & knowing others in flats were also being financially abused to subsidise HNZC profits. I was really ill, but cared & hoped it would be my legacy for the kids & oldies in the flats to leave them with better homes and education. Please look at the photos of my old friends flat in the gallery. I didn’t care if I lost the battle as long as I tried. Sadly it cost me my relationship with my adult children.
Fighting ACC and Housing New Zealand is expensive, but necessary for justice and fair treatment. I’m hoping to find other people who would seek justice for the underdog/vulnerable in fighting bureaucracy.
I had a serious car/truck collision in 1989, it left me 65% disabled and in constant chronic pain. Some battles for treatment or equipment have lasted years. Pain and medications affect my concentration and I’ve got to pay helpers for paperwork and technology work, plus some physical help.
.
I’ve got well over $10k debt fighting HNZ. They have thousands of professionals. I have to pay people to do the work. Earlier this year my brother had gotten cancer and passed on in April. If I hadn’t taken on all this debt against HNZ I would’ve been able to help my loved brother be more comfortable, and that was very sad for me.
If every tenant gave $1, My dream would be to raise over $60k. This would give me hope of setting up a charity to help HNZC tenants deal with serious issues. I was scared of going up against an extremely rich Goverment Dept, while I was very low income.
My HNZ experience has taught me that a government department that was set up to help vulnerable, low income Kiwis into housing has now changed into a profit driven heartless corporation.
I've included a series of photos showing the state of the Britomart flats while I was fighting to get them closed.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
With your support I will be able to pay home-helpers at $15.75 an hour. Even a $5 donation goes a long way, as this pays for 20 minutes of help with technological or administrative tasks.
If I get an excess for that then I’ll use some towards the HNZC debt. If every HNZC tenant contributed then set up a charity to help other tenants. Helpers are Priority over paperwork & technology.
