Please help Carson get the brain surgery he requires
Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui
Hi, my name is Carson Harvey, I am 16 years old and I live in Palmerston North.
I have recently suffered a type of rare brain bleed and spent over a week in the Wellington Hospital ICU unit.
I have had numerous scans and the outcome is that I require Gamma Knife Surgery which is only available for me in London.
I have been diagnosed with Arteriovenous Malformation which is very deep in the brain and this is why I need specialist treatment not available in New Zealand.
I require 2 surgeries over a 3 month period and I would require my parents to come with me to support me during this difficult time.
If I don't have the surgery the leading neurologist in Wellington, Mr Reuben Johnson, has advised a bleed from the AVM is a risk to life in the worst case, or brain damage causing paralysis.
I am currently in Year 12 at Palmerston North Boys High School and I used to play a lot of sports and have a part time job. Unfortunately I am unable to do these things currently as I am not allowed to raise my blood pressure due to the risk of another brain bleed.
I would love to be able to return to being able to enjoy my life.
I appreciate any donation, big or small, and I am so grateful for the support.
The money will help us fund the procedure required for Carson and associated costs, including travel and accommodation.
If we do not raise the full amount, any funds raised will still go towards the surgery and associated costs- we will look at making up the rest with grants and look into a loan if needed
Funds will be going to Carson's Parents Bruce & Darena.
THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELPED 26 January 2024
We would like to say a very big thank you to everybody who has supported us through this very traumatic time for Carson and his family and friends.
We are all back at home now and ready to pick up where we had left things in Palmerston North.
Carson is feeling great and is back at work and will be starting back at school next week.
Carson will be having regular check ups with the neurologists in Wellington and we hope will get the all clear in 3-4 years time (which is the length of time we're told will take for his brain to heal).
Physio will be part of Carson's life until his limp, which was a consequence to having the brain aneurism, is rehabilitated.
This picture is of Carson at the top of the highest building in Dubai, which is where we stopped on the way home. A truly beautiful place.
We got to see some wonderful sights while we were on this journey. We will cherish these moments forever.
So thank you again everybody, we couldn't have done this without you...
