Let's help Nash go fishing!!
Taranaki
Nash has more challenges than most, but gets so much joy and happiness from being out on the water and fishing.... we want to help him be able to do this independently but like everything for disabilities it comes at a price!
Nash will benefit from a purpose-built fishing apparatus included in this will be a Shimano rod and reel combo.
Below is a diagnosis of Nash's condition and challenges thanks to his loving parents Francine and Nathan…
Nash has a syndrome called Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome. He is missing the enzyme in his body that processes uric acid.
It affects his mobility, he is wheelchair bound and his body goes from being very floppy to very tense to be able to achieve any tasks. He is classed as non-verbal but we can communicate with him and he sure knows how to get his needs met! He can not do anything for himself though and requires 24/7 attention and care.
The uric acid causes kidney stones which he painfully passes about every 6 weeks and also affects his brain, inducing self-injurious behaviours which is the hardest part of the syndrome to live with. Last year we had all of his baby teeth removed so that he couldn't bite himself, which was heart-breaking.
Apart from all of this, he is a bright, beautiful boy who's smile melts hearts, with a great sense of humor and he understands everything. We love him to bits.
Brought together by the love of fishing, as a founder of a fishing base charity Nash's father Nathan reached out for support through the New Zealand fishing community Facebook page.
Funds raised will be spent on a purpose built fishing apparatus allowing Nash to fish independently with his own piece of equipment and any other sundry items Nash requires.
