At this stage in life certain parts of our bodies protest more often, but I didn't see this coming ...

With a 57th birthday on the horizon, a diagnosis of cataracts in my right eye has me reflecting on how valuable the sense of sight is, in comparison to anything material. This has prompted me to let you, my friends, know that I do not want anyTHING for my birthday this year, please. If you're still reading this, here's another idea ...
This quite rapid onset of blindness in the right eye is presenting some challenges when living solo; namely needing to drive and generally function at work and in life without nearby support.
To qualify for a place in the public health queue, apparently one needs to be almost blind in both eyes. The alternative is private surgery which for me isn't covered by insurance. The Optometrist has recommended surgery in both eyes as the most effective and economical option, at a cost of $10,500.... hit it once?!
Hence the decision to reach out via Givealittle.
I'm grateful to the friends and family who have convinced me that this is an acceptable request.
There is no targeting, expectation or obligation to anyone reading this. I will be very grateful for any small monetary contributions.
Those who know me will recognise this as a middle finger reflectively raised to my ridiculous sense of independence.
I'd love to continue to work, as well as photograph the local sunrises without guessing where the sun is!
Thanks :)
