Every animal deserves a chance

Nationwide

My name is Bridget Hughes and I need help. Last night (sunday night) I hit a cat while driving home. I never saw him coming, he ran right under the side of my bumper.

Somehow, he survived. I got him to Massey vets, where he is right now. The vet said it's 50/50 whether he'll make it, and if he does, he'll need his left front leg amputated or pinned. He's an entire male, in light but not skinny condition, covered in fleas, no microchip. The vet said the likelihood of him having a home is slim. The bill for sunday night will be a minimum of $500-$1000, plus whatever else he needs if he makes it.

This is all on me. I was driving. I'll find a way to pay the bill. But I need help, I have very, very little money, and other animals to care for. I hate to ask people for money but I don't see how else I can do this, and I have to give him the best shot, I owe him that much.

If you can spare even a dollar it would help.

UPDATE:

Sadly, last night (1st of September), the cat was put to sleep. He was transferred to the care of the SPCA in the morning, and was comfortable when I spoke to the SPCA vets at 4.30 in the afternoon, but went downhill rapidly through the night. The vet made the decision to put him to sleep.

Massey vets are not charging me for sunday night. However there have already been donations, and if we hit the target, I would very much like to put the money on an account at Massey vets after hours clinic, to subsidise emergency care for animals where money would be an obstacle to their care. It's not a lot, but I want at least one animal to have a better shot. I know of cases where an animal has died because their human couldn't afford high fees, or where a vet has had to question whether they can provide life saving care because of the cost. This has to change. And if we can hit our target maybe we can change it for at least one animal.
