Making life easier with Type One Diabetes.
Hamilton Lake, Hamilton
Hi,
For those that are not family or friends .... This is my story.
Im Emma, a 33yr old female living in the Waikato region of NZ. I was Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes not long after my 2nd birthday (1991) coming up 32 years living with this lovely tempramental auto-immune condition. It picks people at random and I was a lucky winner! (Can you pick up on my sarcasm?) If only I could have as much luck with the Lotto!
Fast Forward a few years and at the ripe ol age of 7, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease another auto-immune condition (Reaction to Wheat & Gluten) Food Prices be going up but honestly check out the price of Dietary Food - Not Cool especially when its not by choice.
In recent years I have been diagnosed with IBS (Not auto immune but often linked to celiac)- My main triggers with this one is Dairy but to be honest I have not had the headspace to look into this further as the FODMAP diet is very confusing and compared to the above two, IBS aint fun but it is not life threatening.
Living at Home with Ma & Pa I felt safe, Sleeping next to a partner I felt safe - They knew what symptoms to look out for, Sleeping alone feels safe but only when I can fund my CGM, that shit beeps like crazy and wakes me up!
Not Funded in NZ - Should be - Asking for Assistance - cost appx $500 monthly
CGM + Diabetic Equipment
