World Chainless Record to raise funds for Children's Cycling
Christchurch, Canterbury
I aim to break the World Chainless Cycling record in Central Christchurch, using a children's playground pump track. The current record is 50km and I aim to ride for 60km. Sponsorship for the event will be used to purchase a series of Trek Marlin MTBs, targeted at children ij the 10-13 age group in Christchurch. As well as the bikes there will be follow up training and learning for various types of bike skills and for bike care. The target is to buy 12 bikes, the cost of which are being subsidised by Scotty Brown's bikeshop and by Trek. The training will be by experienced volunteers. All funds raised will go direct to the bike purchases.
We expect to partner with a school to create the community in one area. When we know exactly what's been raised we will choose the school or similar community organisation. Haeata Community College is one option but not agreed with anyone yet
Mountain bikes for children, target is 12 Trek mountain bikes plus equipment plus training to ride and to care for the bikes
Completion of Project and Handover of Bikes 18 May 2025
The 10 new bikes were handed over to Te Aratai College on Tuesday 13 May, with a lot of activities for staff and students, including obstacle courses, slow bike races, fast bikes races. Thanks to Scott and Melanie from Te Aratai for making this happen at the school, and Scotty Brown for all his help with bikes and for subsidising the cost. $5811 was raised on Givealittle, less fees. The bikes retail value was $12,000, which was subsidised down to $8500, the difference in cost being covered by me. Thank you to those who donated and you can be happy that you've made a difference.
