Update for 11/10/2013
11 October 2013I (Chris) went and picked up Chance on the 1st of October from the Murupara Pound and brought him back to our place in Tauranga, so he has been with us for just over a week now. As you can see from the photos he was quite skinny when we got him (23kg), and in the last week has put on 2kg. He was registered and microchipped at the Pound (Whakatane District Council) before we left Murupara, and we have had him vet checked, vaccinated and de-sexed here in Tauranga with Holistic Vets. He has 2 abscesses on his face which are being treated with antibiotics and that are healing quite well. Other than those and his weight, he seems very healthy. We think he is about 2 years old. He is a cross-breed, best guess is a cross between Mastiff, Staffy and Lab. He is a medium-large size. In the short time we have had Chance he has proven to be quite docile, he loves being patted, and we just discovered yesterday that he Loves to play fetch! So we gave him his own fetch toy. He is great with our 2 little dogs and has not shown any aggression towards them. He has impeccable food manners, and I have had no problem hand feeding him his pills (in a treat of course!). The money raised by donations on this page is ONLY for the Registration, micro-chipping and 2 vet visits that were essential, and all the money will be given to the people who generously covered the $500 it cost. We have been given 2 big bags of dog biscuits by Orijen, and we will be funding any extra food he needs, so we are not fundraising for that or any other things he may need. Thank you for your interest, and we will be keeping this page updated with his progress until the $500 is raised. You can also follow my Public Facebook Album ""Chance"" - use the direct link on the ""Overview"" tab on this webpage. Oh, and he will be ready to go to his new home in early November when he has finished his meds and has put on weight - so please contact us if you think he may be the family pet you have been looking for. There will be an adoption fee, which will either go towards covering the $500 costs if we don't raise enough, or if we do, then the adoption fee will be donated to an animal charity.
