Sativex costs $1100.00 per month. This oral spray could stop Alice's seizures, let her speak and improve her movement.
Auckland
Alice was born with Downs Syndrome and developed a severe form of epilepsy as a baby. She had been doing really well, saying a few words, pulling herself up to walk and showing signs of being high-functioning. Epilepsy destroyed all that. The seizures, damage, developmental delay and medication compounded to leave Alice extremely disabled. She can't walk by herself, can't speak and has no fine motor skills. The worst thing is that at 28 she still suffers horrible seizures and we have a chance to stop her suffering. We have ministerial approval for Sativex, which is a cannabis derived oral spray. However it costs $1100.00 per month, which we can't afford. The hope is that apart from hopefully being seizure free, Alice might be able to speak and get some fine motor skills - be able to grasp things properly.
I am Alice's mother Robynne. Alice is my firstborn child.
Funds raised would enable us to trial the Sativex for a year to determine whether it can help Alice's condition.
Phase Two! 24 April 2018
Thank you to all our friends and family who kindly donated to Alice's cause. We raised $1300 which is safely tucked away. However to raise the rest of what is needed, we need to appeal to the wider public and so we are reopening this page. I have written a press release and will be sending it this week with a photo, to the NZ Herald. It has taken a while for me to get up the courage to do this. We were approached by T.V but I didn't have it in me to put Alice that much in the spotlight. With good attention there is always an amount of negative attention too, and I need to be Alice's advocate, while hopefully also achieving the dream to change her life. My heart-felt thanks to you all, Robynne
Thank you, we are very grateful.
Both of you, all the best all the best for the upcoming event :) and thank you.
