I need help to purchase new housing for my ChCh based chinchilla rescue.
Canterbury
I am looking for help to purchase a small insulated cabin for the front yard to house the many cages I have for our current & future rescued Chinchillas....
A few years ago (2013) I started an at-home Chinchilla rescue after finding out about the many sad Chinchilla related story’s in New Zealand. I’ve driven all over the South Island of New zealand & paid for petbus to pickup unwanted Chinchillas from as far North as Whangarei. I currently have 13 Adult Chinchillas and one kit (Baby) that I have been hand rearing, Food alone costs me $123pw (3x $36 pellets & one bale of meadow or Timothy hay-$15pw, On top of that is $22 for dust every 1-2weeks & cleaning supply’s for the cages (As Chinchillas chew I can’t use anything that could be poisonous.
Ineed more room for them all especially the ones that I cannot re-home due to illness, Everything was okay before my Husband Heath passed away in Oct 2014 as we had the room to house as many Chinchilla cages as needed but due to his passing my Daughter & I move to a smaller house so we no longer have the room inside, This is where this Givealittle page becomes important to us, I have purchased new cages from trademe using afterpay but cannot do this with a small cabin/sleepout.
They are currently living in our garage which isn’t ideal as it isn’t insulated meaning it’s too hot in summer & too cold in the dead of winter also our cars are getting ruined by the elements (salt air etc). If it’s too cold during the night I have to get up & put more blankets over the cages & if it’s too hot in summer I have to use 3 fans to cool the double garage down-Chinchillas are better in the cold than hot.
Please help us make my dream a reality, I work so hard to make sure these amazing intelligent animals find the very best homes & getting your help to purchase this shed would mean I can continue my work & even expand to include other unwanted rodents (That’s my dream) Thank you for reading & if you can’t donate~ Please share.
To purchase a shed, cabin or sleepout to house 5 chinchilla cages for our current and future rescue Chinchillas. The cheapest cabin I can find that will fit in our small yard is $6500+ $2500 cladding insulation+ $1500 delivery.
I started a non-profit chinchilla rescue in January 2013 in Christchurch New Zealand. I currently have 13 adult Chinchillas & 1 kit that I am hand rearing & have just now received an email from a lady who needs me to pickup her boarders 2 Chinchillas from Nelson so I by next week I’ll have 15 Chinchillas & 2 of my own too. I work basically alone from home with all expenses coming straight out of my pocket. This is a huge passion of mine. The only money I have gotten from others is from the rehoming fees when I manage to find the perfect home, Other than that I have had no other outside help other than family. Please go to www.chchcchins.simplesite.com for up and coming adoptions.
Purchasing an insulated shed/cabin or sleepout that will fit in the space in my front yard (2m x 4m) Currently most of my rescue Chinchillas are in cages in my garage which isn’t insulated,Making summer & winter unbearable for myself & the Chinchillas.
