Make a difference for children living with disabilities in Fiji

Ni Sa Bula Vinaka! In 2016, I moved to Fiji with my family because of my husbands work, we saw first-hand the life-changing work the Frank Hilton Organization do for this community. Through the kindness and generosity of people like you, they will continue to provide a home for children that don’t have family support, wheelchairs for people who need them, physical therapy to prevent long term impairments.

Baby Christie came to live in the hostel at just 3 months of age. Her parents decided that they could not look after her and the Hilton Hostel became her new home. She is such a delight to care for. Due to her medical condition she will be unable to walk so having comfortable but supportive seating is essential for her to play and communicate and as she is fed via an NG tube she needs to be fed sitting up and ordinary high chairs are not suitable. She has outgrown her baby stroller and needs a specialized stroller to support her ongoing needs.

Your donation will support early detection, intervention, rehabilitation and special education for children with disabilities in Fiji through the Frank Hilton Organization– it’s the only service for disabled children in Fiji.

Who is Frank Hilton Organization

Frank Hilton Organization is a group of passionate people who do amazing work supporting children and families around Fiji.

Frank Hilton ‘Home for life’ in Suva gives children with disabilities that have no family support a place to go. These children are part of the Frank Hilton family and a looked after by caregivers and a therapy team to support all of their needs.

They also offer hearing screening and mobility device services to 17 special schools and see anyone from the community who seek services for their children with disabilities and support families with the necessities of life. They strive to always be the best at what they do and work within World Health Organization standards.

The Fiji Government recognises the organization as critical for supporting children in Fiji with disabilities however funding is short due to Covid19 and other events such as cyclones have created a critical funding shortage.

Frank Hilton Organization is one of a kind in Fiji. There are no other agencies supporting the needs of children with disabilities and their families in Fiji. The organization have the support of a team of allied health professionals from New Zealand and Australia who work alongside the FHO team with further education, training and facilitating new programs.

We are working alongside Spex Seating - Bruce (based in Christchurch) and Motivation Australia's - Lauren to support seating assessments and to supply seating systems for the children living in the Hilton Hostel. We will provide additional training to the local Physiotherapy team on the more complex seating systems that are required for many children in Fiji.

Any additional funding will be given to the Organization to carry out their their essential work with the residents and help to provide additional community programs..
