Please help this wonderful family to raise money to farewell their beloved Taki Chong Nee
Canterbury
Sadly, despite all efforts made by the family, Taki Chong Nee passed away this morning ( 10th of June ), surrounded by his family. The family were unable to bring him to NZ for treatment, as his cancer was too advanced, and we are now raising money to assist the family with funeral arrangements and the associated costs of saying goodbye. Original cause details posted below, detailing Taki's story.
In Samoa there is no free health care, no community services card to assist with medication or tests. In November he had tests done at the hospital in Samoa, and the family were assured those results were sent to New Zealand for possible treatment in New Zealand. The hospital in fact lost those test results. In March there were more tests done, and the results were a diagnosis of bowel cancer, including active lymph nodes. The hospital in Samoa have not treated this illness, they have not acted swiftly enough, and this whole situation could have been prevented. Taki is now in hospital, on a morphine drip, awaiting confirmation from the New Zealand government that they will provide treatment, which the Samoan authorities have said they will fund. However, the family are waiting for confirmation that this is in fact true and they will need support to assist with the associated travel costs for Taki and his wife and a nurse to travel from Samoa to New Zealand should this be confirmed. Selina and Tiki Chong Nee are two of the most generous people I have ever met, both giving time, money, and resources to other families who have needed help. They both worked tirelessly during the aftermath of the Christchurch Earthquakes, as volunteers, offering their home and food and essentials to people in need. As a well known makeup artist and photographer, Selina has often gifted her skill and time for a good cause. They now need your help to assist with the financial costs of treatment if required in Samoa, or travel costs required if the treatment for Taki becomes available in New Zealand. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. We have all been affected by cancer, and we are very fortunate that we live in a country with free health care available. Lets give a little back to those who are very much less fortunate than us, with sub standard health care and support, and who fear that the bureaucracy and red tape will delay Taki's treatment and the inevitable result will be devastating. Thank you.
Selina and Tiki are dear friends of mine and the Chong Nee family generously opened their hearts and their home to myself and my family when I met them a year ago in Samoa at Selina and Tiki's wedding.
