A young, clean-living Christian family man needs help to pay for cancer treatment, so he can see his daughters grow up.
Bay of Plenty
Chris was diagnosed earlier this year with a rare, “non-smokers” type of lung cancer. He’s never smoked or vaped, but exon-20 cancers hit young, fit people anyway.
He started on chemo, but his scan 7 August showed it's started growing again, so onto plan b, Sunvozertinib. It's about $25k for 3 months supply (depending on exchange rates).
He has a wife and 3 lovely young daughters, aged 6-12. When asked what was on his bucket list, all he could come up with is to see his girls grow up, because family is what is most important to him in life.
Treatments funded here aren't often very effective at treating this type of cancer, so he needs help to afford Sunvozertinib, with potential other medication to be looked into at a later date. All of these are very new, and will be very costly (prices found to date = $100k+ for a year).
To get onto a clinical trial in Australia he would currently have to move there to get a Medicare card. He wants his family to share what time he has here, in his home country. We’d love to see Government work with Australia to give New Zealanders access while living here.
Meanwhile, anything people can do to help Chris access a viable treatment, to give him a few more years for his girls to grow up with their Dad, would be hugely appreciated.
I am one of Chris's sisters, and desperately want to help him get effective treatment to stay around as long as possible for his family.

Sunvozertinib working 17 September 2024
Chris is feeling so much better on the Sunvozertinib. He is no longer limited to sleeping just on one side, his cough has dropped away to barely noticeable for those around him, and with better sleep and breathing easier he has more energy.
There's a lot of work behind the scenes to get it, but so worth it.
Thank you so much to his supporters, you're all making much a difference helping him and his girls have more positive time together.
