Christmas Shop

$9,573 of $10,000 goal
Given by 38 generous donors in 9 weeks

The Christmas Shop allows around 120 disadvantaged families on the North Shore to access food and gifts for their Christmas meal and day.

Auckland

For the past 6 years we have put together an annual Christmas Shop to serve families who need a helping hand to make Christmas happen. 2020 has been a challenging year for many of us and this year’s Christmas Shop is more needed than ever.

We are working with local agencies to identify the families we can help the most. We then put together a range of household essentials and Christmas treats — everything needed to ensure Christmas can be a special day. On the 17th of December we host the shop and invite the families to come through, collect their Christmas hampers, and choose gifts.

It costs around $110 per family and this year we are aiming to serve about 120 families. We have partnerships in place with a few local businesses and trusts, however there are still significant costs for us to subsidise these items for our families. As a rule of thumb, a gift of $100 will support one family to meet their Christmas needs.

If you’d like to help us make Christmas happen for a family in our community this year, please consider making a donation.

About us

The Good Works Trust Food bank is the emergency food provider for any Social Service agency with clients on the North Shore including Auckland City Mission, Te Puna Haurora, Oranga Tamariki, Hospice, Victim Support, WDHB, MSD, Plunket, Corrections, CAD’s, RESPECT, Pathways, Shine, North Harbour Budgeting and many others. We’ve been supporting Shore whanau in crisis for nearly 20years. We also provide 55 "make at home" school lunch kits a week providing 935 school lunches each week to whanau unable to feed their kids, and we run a Social Supermarket for people on the journey to financial independence - giving them a hand up, rather than a hand-out.

Use of funds

Your donation will help cover the costs to provide families with a hamper of Christmas essentials. Any extra funds we raise will be cycled back into our foodbank to help us provide ongoing food packages through next year.
