Fundraising drive to restore our operations.

Mangawhai, Northland

Following a stressful three years due to the severe weather events that devastated our clubhouse and surrounding land in 2023, the Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service (MHVLS) is urgently seeking your help. Thanks to support from Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) and the Central Government, the $1.9 million landslip repair is now finally complete. The repair of the damaged building is now underway using the insurer's contractors; however, the club still faces a critical $120,000 shortfall to complete these building works.

Further into the future, MHVLS needs to rebuild the seawall and boat ramp ($650,000), also damaged during the weather event. Despite securing design plans and resource consent for the seawall and boat ramp, MHVLS has been rejected for funding by the Kaipara District Council (KDC), Northern Regional Council (NRC), Foundation North, Lotteries, and various other grant providers.

Without the additional $770,000 of funding and the security of a long-term lease, the club's future is at risk. The health and culture of our club, which has provided volunteer lifeguard services at Mangawhai Heads since 1963, is critical to ensuring that the beach and surrounding area continue to be one of Northland's most popular spots and a safe location for tourists, locals, and their families to enjoy the water.

We need your help now to protect this vital community asset and ensure our lifesaving services can continue for future generations.

Clubhouse Update - 29 October 2025  29 October 2025

Works continue to progress well on the building repair. It is still hoped that the repaired building will be available to operate out of for the busy Christmas period, reducing the overall risk to beach users, with the full level of service available and shorter response times. To achieve this goal, we need your help.
